Autumn

As the wheel turns once again from summer to autumn, it is important to protect your immune system.

The days begin to shorten, gradually, but this affects our lymphatic system and we can become prone to coughs and colds, but you can support your immune system.

  • spend lots of time outdoors, absorbing the last rays of summer. The fresh air helps to clear your sinuses and improves your sense of wellbeing. Activity, too, keeps your circulation moving. Lymph is moved around your body by breathing and movement, so this helps to protect against seasonal colds.
  • body brush every morning before your shower. You can either use a brush or your hand, but begin at your feet and move upwards towards your heart. You can also tap under your arms, behind your knees, groin and abdomen to encourage the lymph drainage, tap lightly but quickly.
  • begin the day with hot water, this flushes your digestive system allowing your body to absorb the nutrients from your food. Eat a varied diet, lots of root vegetables and green leafy veg, they are packed full of bioactive compounds, this are mainly found in root vegetables and promote good health. Green leafy vegetables are rich in fibre, iron, b vitamins, magnesium, potassium and calcium.
  • make a list of everything you love about autumn. The vibrant colours, spicy scents, hot chocolate, jumpers, walks in the woods kicking up fallen leaves. By doing this, you are connecting with autumn positively, not just seeing a loss of summer days but relishing those misty mornings and warm sunny afternoons. Autumn is a time of beautiful sunsets and sunrises too!
  • Fill your home with scent. Essential oils will help protect you and your family. Have a look at our sister site , helpmeorganicsHpmeorganicsHelpmeorganics

Autumn is the mellower season, and what we lose in flowers we more than gain in fruits.

Summer Skin

We wait all year for sunshine so we can sit and bask in the rays, but do you understand how to keep your skin feeling and, more importantly, staying healthy?

When we tan, the sun’s UVA rays penetrate the lower layers of the epidermis, activating the melanocytes that produce melanin, this is the brown pigment that gives us a tan and is the body’s way of protecting the skin from burning and further damage. Using suncream of at least factor 30 helps to prevent damage and regular hydration is key to keeping a soft healthy skin.

We all need exposure to sunlight, so that our body can produce vitamin D. Experts recommend between 10 and 30 minutes daily, as long as you have a shadow on your arm, your body is exposed to sunlight.

So how can you care for your skin during summer

  • Exfoliating your skin weekly really helps to remove dead skin cells so your skin absorbs oils better. Make sure you are exfoliating no more than 2 per month though so that you avoid irritating your skin and be careful to skin test the exfoliator just in case of reaction. Some people love a salt scrub, others find it too harsh, so try before you use it if possible.
  • Daily skin brushing helps to stimulate your circulation, move fluid, and bring fresh nutritious blood to various parts of your body. If you struggle with fluid retention, try daily body brushing. Make sure that you do it on dry skin before your shower in an upward direction towards your heart and it is a light touch.
  • Apply an oil after your shower to replenish your skin. Use a plant oil, not mineral, as the oil is quickly absorbed into your skin and will not leave any sticky residue. Have a look at Helpmeorganics massage oils
  • Book in for a Salt Bodyscrub. Perfect before your holiday, special occasion or just because your skin needs a boost. The treatment involves a salt scrub, shower and full body massage, costing £55
  • Nutrition is a key factor for having healthy summer skin. Keep hydrated with plenty of water. Being hydrated helps keep your muscles healthy, regulates your body temperature, keeps you alert, and for your skin, you will have softer skin. Eating well during summer is much easier and cheaper. Make sure to eat plenty of fruit and vegetables, experts recommend eating a rainbow each day. Eat plant-based, clean food. Watermelons are packed full of electrolytes, they help with hydration, balancing your alkali/acid levels, and will help repair any damage to skin, nerve, and muscle tissues. Tomatoes are rich in lycopene, this is an antioxidant that can protect your skin from harmful UVA rays, if you struggle with a sensitive gut, remove the seeds.
  • Staying relaxed is also good for our skin health. When we are stressed, our body becomes more inflamed leading to all sorts of affects and rashes, breakouts and sensitivity to perfumes, sunshine is how your skin tells you to find ways to calm. Now I will always recommend massage, reflexology and taking time for quiet reflection, summer is a wonderful time to do this. Simply set your clock for 30 minutes earlier, take a glass of water outside and sit, allow the natural world to help you relax and set your intentions for the day. The air is fresher, the sunlight gentle, its a lovely way to enjoy summer and to start your day in the right way.

I hope these tips will help you enjoy this very short season.

“It was a splendid summer morning and it seemed as if nothing could go wrong.”

Winter Wellness

With the weather turning colder, much colder, your immune system can become weaker and more prone to viruses but follow our tips to help boost your body and calm your mind so you can enjoy everything winter has to offer.

available from www.helpmeorganics.com or pop into our shop

By using antibacterial essential oils within your home and workplace, you are creating a healthy barrier against winter’s cold viruses. Eating certain foods also helps

  • Berries are rich in vitamin C and K, rich in fibre, magnesium, and potassium and are prebiotics which is good for your digestive system
  • Leafy greens are full of vitamins and minerals, they are also a rich source of phytonutrients. This means that they are rich in nutrients to boost your immunity.
  • it is recommended that we eat a rainbow every day to ensure that we have the complete range of vitamins and minerals to feed our body.
  • If you eat meat, oily fish is extremely rich in omega 3. Turkey has vitamins B6, B12, and niacin, and choline, very important nutrients for your brain function
  • If you are a vegetarian or vegan, nuts and seeds contain nutrient-rich vitamins. B12 is very tricky to include in your diet, it is recommended to take a supplement.
Eat to stay well this winter

During the winter our mood can lower due to the shorter days and longer nights, there are many actions you can take to improve this

  • Get outside every day in the daylight, you will be absorbing vitamin D which is believed to help with SAD.
  • Make sure you are active. Your lymph is pumped around your body by movement and breathing so get moving, go for a walk, dance, garden, cycle. The more you move the better your lymphatic system will be. After dancing, you always feel uplifted so shimmy to the kettle every day!
  • Body brushing, dry before your shower really helps to improve your circulation and exfoliates at the same time. Always brush lightly towards your heart. Have you seen Helpmeorganics Wellness Therapy Gift Boxes
https://www.helpmeorganics.com/shop/gift-box

Therapy wise, we have carefully selected special offers to help you through winter. The December offer is the Hot Stone Massage with Reflexology, this is the queen of all massages and will warm your muscles deep down to relieve tension. The gentle flow of the hot batu stones, aromatic massage oils, and reflexology will give you the boost you need.

We also recommend reflexology lymph drainage to help decongest your sinuses, why not combine this with a back, neck, face, and scalp massage or the Tibetan Acupressure Head Massage?

Finally, Winter is a wonderful season, and Christmas is celebrated on the 25th of December. It is a wonderful time of year, full of fun but also very busy and stressful. Please take your time to enjoy the lights, scents, and family time, don’t rush about trying to be perfect.

We work very hard to keep our prices down but there will be a price increase on January 1st, 2023. New price lists will be available in the shop and will be online on the 1st Jan 2023

Thank you for your support this year, I have been very touched by how many customers I see on a regular basis. I wish you a Merry Christmas and a wonderful 2023.
