How to have a relaxing Christmas

With Christmas only four weeks to go, I am sure that you are meeting yourself coming back and becoming frazzled in the process but really is this the type of Christmas that you want? I didnt think so. Christmas can be a simple time really, most people, guests and children just want a happy time, eating good tasty healthy food, watching Christmas movies under a blanket and presents too.

If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed, try this Box Breathing exercise to slow down your breathing. When you are stressed you shallow breathe, this tightens your diaphragm building up the pressure. Stop and try this exercise.

This year has been tough for many people, if you are struggling to feel Christmassy, thats absolutely fine. You do not have to pretend to feel festive, maybe next year you will. So here is my suggestion to help you

If you struggling with a cold, try using Helpmeorganics “help me, im feeling under the weather” products, made with antibacterial, antiviral, antiseptic and anti microbial tea tree, peppermint, eucalyptus, lavender and tangerine. Available in a candle, massage oil, oil blend, room spray, reed diffuser and wax melts, the scent will clear your head, open your sinuses and help you breathe easier.

Perfect gift for anyone who is poorly

Christmas is a time of beautiful scents, I am an aromatherapist so spend my time surrounded by scents, I would strongly recommend Helpmeorganics “help me say hello to winter”. Organic essential oils of fir needle, clove, lemon, ginger and sweet orange will diffuse around your home. Place an aromastone on the radiator in the hallway to create a wonderful warm welcome for visitors and you too!

I wish you a Happy Christmas and that 2025 will bring you lots of fun, laughter and adventures. Thank you for coming for treatments, buying my products and for being so lovely all year. Linda xx

Summer Skin

We wait all year for sunshine so we can sit and bask in the rays, but do you understand how to keep your skin feeling and, more importantly, staying healthy?

When we tan, the sun’s UVA rays penetrate the lower layers of the epidermis, activating the melanocytes that produce melanin, this is the brown pigment that gives us a tan and is the body’s way of protecting the skin from burning and further damage. Using suncream of at least factor 30 helps to prevent damage and regular hydration is key to keeping a soft healthy skin.

We all need exposure to sunlight, so that our body can produce vitamin D. Experts recommend between 10 and 30 minutes daily, as long as you have a shadow on your arm, your body is exposed to sunlight.

So how can you care for your skin during summer

  • Exfoliating your skin weekly really helps to remove dead skin cells so your skin absorbs oils better. Make sure you are exfoliating no more than 2 per month though so that you avoid irritating your skin and be careful to skin test the exfoliator just in case of reaction. Some people love a salt scrub, others find it too harsh, so try before you use it if possible.
  • Daily skin brushing helps to stimulate your circulation, move fluid, and bring fresh nutritious blood to various parts of your body. If you struggle with fluid retention, try daily body brushing. Make sure that you do it on dry skin before your shower in an upward direction towards your heart and it is a light touch.
  • Apply an oil after your shower to replenish your skin. Use a plant oil, not mineral, as the oil is quickly absorbed into your skin and will not leave any sticky residue. Have a look at Helpmeorganics massage oils
  • Book in for a Salt Bodyscrub. Perfect before your holiday, special occasion or just because your skin needs a boost. The treatment involves a salt scrub, shower and full body massage, costing £55
  • Nutrition is a key factor for having healthy summer skin. Keep hydrated with plenty of water. Being hydrated helps keep your muscles healthy, regulates your body temperature, keeps you alert, and for your skin, you will have softer skin. Eating well during summer is much easier and cheaper. Make sure to eat plenty of fruit and vegetables, experts recommend eating a rainbow each day. Eat plant-based, clean food. Watermelons are packed full of electrolytes, they help with hydration, balancing your alkali/acid levels, and will help repair any damage to skin, nerve, and muscle tissues. Tomatoes are rich in lycopene, this is an antioxidant that can protect your skin from harmful UVA rays, if you struggle with a sensitive gut, remove the seeds.
  • Staying relaxed is also good for our skin health. When we are stressed, our body becomes more inflamed leading to all sorts of affects and rashes, breakouts and sensitivity to perfumes, sunshine is how your skin tells you to find ways to calm. Now I will always recommend massage, reflexology and taking time for quiet reflection, summer is a wonderful time to do this. Simply set your clock for 30 minutes earlier, take a glass of water outside and sit, allow the natural world to help you relax and set your intentions for the day. The air is fresher, the sunlight gentle, its a lovely way to enjoy summer and to start your day in the right way.

I hope these tips will help you enjoy this very short season.

“It was a splendid summer morning and it seemed as if nothing could go wrong.”

Release your emotional side!!

Everybody has emotions, some are very good at holding them close, hidden away. Others wear their feelings on their chests, very vulnerable to upset.  But who is right??

Emotions can be happy, sad, frustrating, angry, jealous or on top of the World elated.  People hold their emotional state in various ways.  You can store worry in your stomachs, heads, chest, hormones, happiness tends to glow from your face (as does anger/frustration).  By allowing your emotional state to ease slowly, I mean if you are worried, your stomach hurts, try placing your hands on your tum, close your eyes and breathe, the action of moving your abdomen helps to release the anxiety thus making you feel better, lighter.

If you have a headache, there may be many reasons but sometimes if you have been storing your emotion in your head or thinking things through they can cause a build up of pressure.  In this case, try closing your eyes, concentrating on your breathing and try not to think of anything else but your breath.  The sheer motion of transferring your thoughts to the in and out of your breath actually stops your mind from worrying/over thinking and on most occasions , your pressure will have released and a clearer mind will show.

I have known people to show their emotional state through their skin, acne, excema  can (not always) be as a result of anxiety, it is therefore vital to find an outlet.  Some people like to run then go into a jog as they relax, others take a long soak to unwind. Whatever it takes try to release your emotions, come to terms that we all struggle at times but holding it in will only make things worse at the end.

So how can Holistic therapy help?

Essential oils are ideal to help counteract today’s busy lifestyle and life’s pressures.  Fill your home with the organic scent of aromatherapy, fill a bowl with water and drop 3-4 drops of a blend (we recommend Helpmeorganics Aromatherapy Blends), place your bowl in the hallway or landing so that the aroma gently diffuses around your house, relaxing, protecting or refreshing as they go.  Synthetic fragrance may smell nice but have no therapeutic benefits, you need pure organic aromatherapy for this.

If you love having long soaks in the bath, set the scene. Light your candle (we recommend Helpmeorganics Soy Candles infused with organic essential oils), fill your bath then just before you step in, pour in your cup of milk infused with 2 drops of our aromatherapy blend.  Spend your time inhaling the aroma. Afterwards apply our massage oils, pop on your pj’s and either watch a “easy watching programme”, read a good book or simply listen to some music.  You will sleep better and be ready for the next day.

Treatment wise, massage therapy is ideal to help you switch off, most massage techniques mimic the ebb & flow of the sea to allow you to relax.  By combining massage, soft lighting, gentle music and lovely aromas, we can help you to release any pressures.  Sometimes if you have had an operation, emotions connected with the illness or operation can become stuck, by using Navel candles, we can release your emotional state.  Reflexology is also brilliant at gently releasing any anxiety or upset within your body.

Give it a try, if you persistently struggle with headaches, IBS, PMS, skin outbreaks, we wholeheartedly recommend you embrace the wonderful world of aromatherapy.
