Autumn

As the wheel turns once again from summer to autumn, it is important to protect your immune system.

The days begin to shorten, gradually, but this affects our lymphatic system and we can become prone to coughs and colds, but you can support your immune system.

  • spend lots of time outdoors, absorbing the last rays of summer. The fresh air helps to clear your sinuses and improves your sense of wellbeing. Activity, too, keeps your circulation moving. Lymph is moved around your body by breathing and movement, so this helps to protect against seasonal colds.
  • body brush every morning before your shower. You can either use a brush or your hand, but begin at your feet and move upwards towards your heart. You can also tap under your arms, behind your knees, groin and abdomen to encourage the lymph drainage, tap lightly but quickly.
  • begin the day with hot water, this flushes your digestive system allowing your body to absorb the nutrients from your food. Eat a varied diet, lots of root vegetables and green leafy veg, they are packed full of bioactive compounds, this are mainly found in root vegetables and promote good health. Green leafy vegetables are rich in fibre, iron, b vitamins, magnesium, potassium and calcium.
  • make a list of everything you love about autumn. The vibrant colours, spicy scents, hot chocolate, jumpers, walks in the woods kicking up fallen leaves. By doing this, you are connecting with autumn positively, not just seeing a loss of summer days but relishing those misty mornings and warm sunny afternoons. Autumn is a time of beautiful sunsets and sunrises too!

Autumn is the mellower season, and what we lose in flowers we more than gain in fruits.
